Welcome to Highlands Primary School. Built in 1905, the building houses a vibrant modern learning building. The school has a current roll of 630 pupils in the main school, plus 78 part time nursery pupils.
Each year group has three classes together, a selection of which are shown on our 360 degree tour, with additional areas for group work. Other facilities include our Art room, Library, Music and Drama Studio and a Computing room.
Playground equipment enhances the outdoor learning environment, with dedicated spaces for Nursery, Reception and Year 1. The playground also has garden areas, seating and picnic areas. Field activities take place in Wanstead Park, directly opposite the school.
Both the indoor and outdoor learning environments are continually reviewed and developed.

Children may stay for a school dinner, bring a packed lunch or go home for lunch.
Free School Meals
Free school meals are available for all children in Reception classes, Year 1 and
Year 2, regardless of family income. Free school meals are also available to children in Year 3 – Year 6, dependent on family income.
However, we strongly encourage you to apply for Free School Meals if you think you may be eligible, whichever year group you child is in, as this attracts valuable additional funding (pupil premium funding) for the school, which is used to provide additional curricular and extra-curricular learning opportunities.
If you think your child may be eligible for Free School Meals, please go to www.redbridge.gov.uk, or visit the First Stop Shop, London Borough of Redbridge at Lynton House, High Road, Ilford.
School Dinners
Our school dinners are provided by our external catering company, ISS Caterhouse. Healthy and nutritious meals are prepared on site in the school kitchen. Halal, non-halal and vegetarian options and a salad bar are available every day. Chips are served one day a week.
ISS Caterhouse also collect and record your child’s dinner money. All meals should be paid for in advance at the start of the week. ISS are unable to provide a meal without payment. Payment for school meals should be sent in an envelope, clearly marked with
with your child’s name. ISS can take payments over the phone on 0844 583 5757, and payments can be made on-line with CYPAD. For more details, see

Packed Lunches
If your child has a packed lunch, please send this in with your child at the beginning of the school day. Children are not always in their own classrooms and it can be difficult to track down a child in time to pass on a lunch brought in during the morning.
Please encourage your child to make healthy food choices by providing a healthy packed lunch, for instance, a sandwich, piece of fruit and a healthy drink.
Home Lunches
If your child goes home for lunch, they should be collected by and return with an adult. Please pick up your child and return to the main entrance – all other gates are locked during the school day.
Please note that, as your child is not marked as being present on the school site during the lunch hour if they are home dinners, they should not return until 5 minutes before the end of the lunch time, for Health and Safety reasons.
Lunchtime Clubs
Children attending will need to have a school dinner or packed lunch on the day of the club, rather than go home as they would not be marked in the register as being present if they go home for lunch.
