Apply For A Place For Your Child
At Highlands Primary School we admit 90 children in each year group from Reception to Year 6.
School places from Reception to Year 6 are dealt with by London Borough of Redbridge Primary School Admissions. Our School Governing Body (The Thinking Schools Federation Governing Body) has no power to decide who gets a place at our school. This is decided by the LEA (Local Education Authority).

Nursery Admissions
Highlands Primary School has a nursery accommodating 39 children in both morning and afternoon sessions.
Children are admitted to our nursery in the academic year of their 4th birthday. All parents are entitled to 15 hours of free Early Years education for their child each week (i.e. 5 sessions of 3 hours per day for 38 weeks). Some parents may be eligible for 30 hours of free Early Years education. Eligibility can be checked through the following website:
https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk/how-to-apply-for-30-hours-free-childcare/
In certain circumstances we may be able to admit children to our Nursery in the school term AFTER their third birthday. This is only IF there are spaces available.
Please download and complete the nursery application form above and send it by e-mail to nurseryadmissions@highlandsprimary.net
Once the application form is received by the school your child will be added to the waiting list for the appropriate year which is the academic year of their 4th birthday.
The statutory right to appeal does not apply to admissions to nursery classes.
Please note, a place in a nursery class DOES NOT guarantee that your child will be admitted to the main school. You will need to apply for a place in a Reception class between September 1st and January 15th, the year before your child is due to start school.
Some parents may be eligible for 30 hours of free Early Years education. Eligibility can be checked through the following website:

Reception Admissions
Applications for entry to Reception in September 2024 must be submitted by 15th January 2024 at the latest via the Redbridge e-admissions website. Please read Redbridge’s e-admissions guidance for more information on making an application.
Children being admitted to Reception can have their admission deferred beyond the start of term in September, but not beyond the beginning of the term after the child’s fifth birthday or the academic year in which admission is sought. Parent’s must inform the school if they wish to defer entry.
If the demand for places is greater than what is available, all applications will be considered on an equal basis, within the following categories for each relevant year group.
- Looked after children – children in the care of the Local Authority
- Children of school staff – up to one per form of entry
- Children with brothers or sisters in the main school in Reception to Year 6
- Children living nearest to the school- measured by the shortest walking distance.
School places are offered in line with the Redbridge Admissions Policy.
The below document gives full details of Redbridge admissions criteria.

Admissions for pupils with SEND
Pupils with SEND are admitted to the school on the same basis as any other child. The Governing Body uses the LEA admissions criteria. In the case of Physical Disability the the LEA Admissions department must liaise with the SENDCO to determine the suitability of Highlands Primary meeting their needs.
Admissions During the School Year
If you wish to make an application for your child or children to join us at Highlands Primary School after January 15th 2024 you will need to make an in-year application.
You can apply for a school place this way after your child has started their first year.
Reasons for your child changing school include:
- moving to Redbridge from somewhere else
- moving home within Redbridge
- your child needs to go to a different school
