Hear from Headteachers
At a time of considerable turbulence in our country, it is important to take the opportunity to celebrate both the diversity and success of the schools in our capital. At The Thinking Schools Federation, inclusion is central to the work that we do. For us, this means that every child, staff member and parent feels valued, included and listened to. Both of the schools within our Federation, Highlands Primary and Uphall Primary, have worked with the Mayor of London and the Violence Reduction Unit to be Gold Level Rights Respecting Schools, and this ethos is the glue that binds our school communities together.
We are committed to protecting and nurturing our children’s rights to enable them to develop as responsible and active citizens, determined to make a positive difference in the world. As adults, we must see ourselves as role models for our children. How we listen to and value each other sends the message loudly and clearly of the importance of showing kindness and respect to each other. Â
Childhood, including school, should be a time of fun and joy. As stated in the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child, every child has the right to an education that develops their personality, talents and abilities to the full. To enable this to happen, our schools must be truly inclusive, nurturing learning communities.
